Jungle Mystique

Project Overview

Gravity is one of the biggest electronic music festivals in Tunisia. I partnered with Marwen, a digital artist and musician to create the Chill Zone of the festival that we named, Jungle Mystique.

The Concept

• The whole space is dressed up with projector lights and visuals
• We are all playing with our voices, bodies and the available instruments and are inviting the participants to join us.
• The audience can either rest or play with our interactive installations (The Aura Portal, Magic Well and a Buffet of musical instruments like Kalimba, guitars, Midi Keyboards)

My Contribution

I imagined, designed and created - with the help of the team - two installations using projectors, Touchdesigner and a kinect sensor:

Aura Portal

a portal displaying an interactive visual (Using a projector). Using the camera feed, I used mediapipe plugin in touchdesigner to detect (using AI) the person's movements from the camera feed and use that information to displace the shape in real time. The resulting effect looked like an aura surrounding the person and people had fun interacting with it and dancing in front of it.

Magic Well

A pool filled with water, with a projector projecting interactive visuals on it. There's a kinect tracking the movement happening on the water surface. Participants are invited to play with some plastic donut shapes that are floating on the water. When the donut moves, it leaves a "trail" behind it. .Participants had fun making the donuts race.

• Front-end Development: Translating design mockups into interactive web or mobile interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Back-end Development: Building server-side logic, databases, and APIs to support the functionality of the application.
• Integration and Testing: Integrating front-end and back-end components, and conducting rigorous testing to ensure the reliability and performance of the product.

Verdict:

I'm really grateful for the opportunity to play and discover this new world that I immediately fell in love with.
I will certainly be exploring this a lot more. Touchdesigner is slowly becoming my favorite tool!

We met a lot of people that want to partner with us/display our installations which is very exciting!
