Project OverviewFabrika is an underground electronic music festival in Tunisia. I was invited to create interactive visual experiences for their chill zone, turning an industrial space into a multi-sensory environment where people could escape and play with digital art.
The Concept
My ContributionI created four distinct installations using Touchdesigner:
Audio-Reactive Panels A series of panels displayed real-time visual interpretations of the music, creating an ever-evolving backdrop of digital art that pulsed and flowed with the festival's soundscape.
"Passthrough" Portal Inspired by the idea of transformation, I created a curtain-like installation with vertical light stripes. Using a Kinect sensor, the installation came alive when people passed through it, creating interactive moments. Festival-goers turned it into a playful space, dancing and experimenting with how their movements affected the visuals.
Interactive Pool Building on my experience from Gravity Festival's Magic Well, I created a water-based installation where audio-reactive visuals were projected onto the water's surface, creating mesmerizing patterns that responded to the music.
Haze Projections By projecting visuals onto a carefully controlled haze atmosphere, I created ethereal, three-dimensional light sculptures in the air. The result was a hauntingly beautiful effect where light seemed to materialize in the space, adding a mystical quality to the environment.
Verdict
This project was an exciting exploration of how different mediums can be used to create interactive experiences. The combination of solid surfaces (panels), permeable barriers (passthrough), liquid (pool), and air (haze) allowed me to play with various ways of materializing digital art. Seeing people discover and interact with each installation in their own way was incredibly rewarding. The project taught me a lot about creating cohesive multi-installation experiences while pushing the boundaries of different projection techniques.
