Litay is an innovative Tunisian musical project launched in 2024, bringing together two passionate artists: Ahmed Litaiem on Nay and Aymen Ben Attia on guitar. When Ahmed approached me to create visuals for their concert, I was thrilled by the opportunity to work with these talented musicians and explore the visualization of traditional instruments.
The Concept
My Contribution I developed a real-time visual system that responded to their musical conversation:
βNote Detection System For this project, I created a custom note detection system specifically tuned to the nay and guitar. The system could distinguish between both instruments, allowing the visuals to reflect their musical dialogue. Rather than just responding to sound, the visuals became a third voice in their conversation, adding a visual dimension to their immersive sensory experience.
Verdict This project opened up a whole new direction in my work with audio-visual interactions. The challenge of visualizing traditional instruments pushed me to develop new techniques that I'll definitely keep exploring. The positive response from both the musicians and audience was incredibly encouraging.
The collaboration has led to several other musicians showing interest in incorporating interactive visuals into their performances, and I'm excited to keep pushing the boundaries of how we can visualize traditional music in contemporary ways.
